GOVERNMENT CAUCUS
CONFIDENCE IN COALITION. STATEMENT BY MR FORBES. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, September 23. Two hours were spent in conference by Government members this morning when the first caucus of the session was held. A motion of continued confidence in the Coalition was carried. It was a very satisfactory meeting, said the Prime Minister at the conclusion of the caucus. “We discussed the work to be done this session and after that Mr Coates addressed the meeting on the work done at Ottawa. Members expressed their satisfaction at the way in which Mr Coates had represented New Zealand at Ottawa. The whole of the discussions were of a very friendly nature,” added Mr Forbes, “and there was no discordant note.”
All the Government members in Wellington attended and the following resolution was carried: “On the anniversary of the formation of the Coalition Government, this caucus of members expresses its entire satisfaction that the course adopted was in the national interest and records its continued loyalty to the Government.” The caucus carried resolutions of sympathy with Sir Charles Statham in the death of his mother, Mrs Clark in the death of her husband, the Hon. E. Clark, Mr C. H. Clinkard in the death of his wife, the Hon. A. F. Hawke in the death of his wife, and Mrs Makitanara in the death of her husband.
