HOSTILITIES IN CHINA.

(Rec. 7 p.m.) Shanghai, September 23, Despatches from Chefoo state that fighting at Shantung is increasing in seriousness, all attempts at mediation apparently having failed. Hostilities are proceeding at Laichow and Laiyang, and foreign missionaries have evacuated both places. This civil war, In charge of rival war lords, Han Fuchu and Liu Chen-nien, goes on in spite of the Government’s urgent request to them to submit their territorial disputes for peaceful settlement at Nanking.
