Mr F. Trapski was a passenger for the north by yesterday afternoon’s express.
A Press Association message from London reports the death of the Dowager Countess of Kintore. At yesterday’s meeting of the Southland Education Board Mr S. Rice was unanimously appointed chairman for the ensuing two years.
Constable W. H. B. Broomfield arrived in Invercargill by Thursday’s express to fill a vacancy here. He was formerly stationed at Auckland. A Press Association message from Apia states that the Administrator, General Hart, and Mrs Hart and their daughter Betty, are passengers by the Maui Pomare. The secretary to the Administration, Mr A. C. Turnbull, is acting Administrator during General Hart’s absence.
Mr A. O. Norwood, sub-accountant in the head office of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., London, was a passenger by the Maunganui, which arrived at Wellington from Sydney on Tuesday. This is Mr Norwood’s first visit to New Zealand, and he has come out in order to acquire first hand knowledge of New Zealand banking conditions, probably making a stay of 12 months in the Dominion.
The appointment of Mr J. J. Walker, manager of the Barry’s Bay cheese factory, to a position on the grading staff at Wellington, is announced. A native of Otago, Mr Walker learned cheese-making in the Momona and Seaward Downs factories. He was appointed manager for Pine Bush factory in 1925, and to Barry’s Bay in January, 1928. As an exhibitor at shows he has been very successful, and his latest achievement was to win the prize for the highest grading points for the 1931-32 season for the Dominion. Mr Walker commences his new duties on October 1.
