Plunket Society

The monthly committee meeting of the Invercargill Branch of the Plunket Society was held in Mrs Hackworth’s office on Wednesday, September 21. Those present were: President, Mrs H. W. Royds in the chair, Mesdames Ritchie Crawford, C. C, Jennings, W. S. Todd, J. D. Mitchell, A. E. Bath, A. Derbie, J. S. Nelson, A. S. Russell, J. Thomson, Roy Anderson, T. F. Gilkison, S. M. Macalister, T. R. Bailey, and W. L. Bews. Apologies were received from Mesdames R. M. Strang and W. Hinchey. Before commencing ' the business of the meeting Mrs Royds moved a resolution ■of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs A. F. Hawke who was for so many years an active member of the committee. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect The committee also expressed their sympathy with Nurse Rhind in the sad loss of her mother.

The following were appointed visiting committee for next month:—Kari-tane-Hunt Hospital: Mesdames Royds, Crawford, Jennings, Macalister, Gilkison and Derbie; Anderson Home: Mrs Royds; Rest Room: Mrs Roy Anderson; South Invercargill: Mrs Thomson; Gladstone: Mrs Bews. With regard to selection of trainees for Karitane-Hunt Hospital the following were appointed a selection committee: Matron Warneke, Mesdames Royds, Crawford and Jennings. The question of purchase of eggs for Karitane-Hunt Hospital was left in the hands of Miss Warneke and Mrs Royds. The following are new members for the month: Mesdames J. M. Winders,

Bramford, 88 Princes street, Myers 124 Duke street The following are monthly reports:— Matron Wameke, writing from Kari-tane-Hunt Hospital, reported that 4 mothers and 9 babies were admitted for treatment during August, 7 mothers and 9 babies being discharged, leaving 2 mothers and 11 babies in on August 3L Five mothers and 11 babies had been the largest number on one day. Patients had come from Stewart Island, Lumsden, Ohai, Invercargill and Kennington, Tisbury. Miss Sheila Campbell, on the staff, had passed her final examination. Gifts had been received from Mesdames R. A. Anderson and R, B. Clark (apples), Mr Hart, Lawrence (collection of shrubs) and Mrs F. G. O’Beime (blankets). Nurse Wilson, reporting on subbranches, stated that 105 visits had been paid to homes, while 421 had visited rooms: Riverton (5 visits), 24 homes, 79 adults and 69 babies visiting rooms—4 new cases; Bluff (5), 31 homes, 48 adults and 40 babies visiting rooms—2 new cases; Tuatapere (5), 30 homes, 37 adults and 33 babies visiting rooms—4 new cases; Otautau (2) —15 homes, 24 adults and 20 babies visiting homes—2 new cases; Orepuki (2)—4 homes, 23 adults and 22 babies visiting rooms—2 new cases; Ohai (2) —1 home, 13 babies and 13 adults visiting rooms—3 new cases. Nurse Maclntyre reported that during 4 visits to South Invercargill, she had visited 210 homes, while 73 adults, 64 babies and 11 older children had called at rooms. During 4 visits to the Rest Rooms, 83 adults, 67 babies and 13 older children had called, including 5 new cases. Coughs, colds and gastric influenza had been prevalent. This was the case, also, at the Anderson Plunket Home, where there had been 61 new cases for the month. Fifty-eight visits had been made to homes (new cases) while 409 old cases were attended to; 447 adults, . 386 babies and 87 older children had visited the office, making a total number of 861 babies under supervision, and 195 older children. Seven letters had been received and 6 answered.

Nurse Rhind reported that during 5 visits to Waikiwi, she had visited 31 homes, while 52 adults, 46 babies and 16 older children had called at the office, including 1 new case. Coughs and colds had been prevalent.
