The series of euchre socials run under the auspices of the Bowling Club were concluded on Monday evening, when the attendance was scarcely up to expectations. Keen competition in the ladies’ section resulted in Mrs H. Duncan and Miss K. Hunt tying for first place, Mrs Duncan winning in the play-off. Mr J. Magee was the winner of the men’s prize. . The play off for the Western District senior championship which takes place on Saturday, between Orawia and Nightcaps is being looked forward to with exceptional interest, and given fine weather a large gate is assured. The following players will represent Nightcaps:—Backs, N. Irwin, G. Cappie N. Grant, A. Dixon, H. Dempster, G. Excell, J. O’Halloran; forwards, W. McKenzie, G. Greer, W. Greer, M. McCoy, T. Richardson, F. Greer, E. Excell, W. Pope. Reserves: backs, Arch, Dixon, W. Muir; forwards, W. Klemick, D. Dyet. A team representing past and present players have issued a challenge stating that they are willing to meet either of the club fifteens in a try-out. Following is the challenging team: A. Dixon, A. Kennedy, W. Dixon, F. Gill, J. Duncan, B. Rushton, W. Callow, F. Tikey, J. Brazer, T. Duncan (captain), Croad, Bell. Dixon, Adams, T. Dockerty. Reserves: forwards, D. L. Baird, M. Capnie, J. Cosgriff; backs, W. Johnstone, J. Fordyce, A. Pillings. In view of matches ahead a basketball practice was held on the tennis courts on Wednesday afternoon, a good muster of players attending. Wairio are visiting Nightcaps on Saturday to play a friendly match. Play in the A and B grade golf championship is nearing completion, interesting competition taking place during the week. Recent results are as follows: — Men’s A grade: semi- + "nals—A. Cochrane defeated James Johnstone; J. Barr defeated N. Croad. The final will be played on Saturday’’, July 30. Mens B grade: semi-finals —F. Thompson v. W. Koch; Burgess v. Wells. Ladies’ A grade: semi-finalists —Mrs Wells v. Mrs Cook; Mrs Johnstone v. Miss F. Spence. Miss Spence defeated Mrs Johnstone and will meet the winner of the other semi- final. Ladies’ B grade:, semi-finals ■—Mrs Laidlaw defeated Miss M. Callow; Miss Klemick defeated Miss Rushton. In the final Miss P. Klemick defeated Mrs Laidlaw.
