WORKSHOP THEATRE

THE SECOND OFFERING.

FIVE ONE-ACT PLAYS.

In view of the special interest awakened by the first recital of one-act plays given by the Workshop Theatre, the announcement of a second collection of them, on August 8,9, and 10 will be welcome. This time there will be five plays, all of them new to the stage in Invercargill, and they will serve to introduce a number of players who did not appear in the first programme. The plays have been chosen so that a wide field of interest will be covered, ranging from the fantastic “The Proof” to the poetic tragedy of Synge’s “Riders to the Sea,” which is generally acclaimed as the greatest one-act play ever ' written. These plays are offered to the public by the Workshop Theatre (founded by the Invercargill Operatic and Dramatic Society) which hopes, if its first year is successful, to extend its operations, and build up dramatic, activities throughout the province, in addition to which it will be able to present more plays and develop local talent to an even greater extent. The first recital of plays was keenly supported, and' it is confidently anticipated that the patronage at the second venture will be even larger. The five plays are “Smoke Screens” by Harold Brighouse, “The Stoker” by Harold Brighouse, “The Proof” by Jean Taflop, “Enter the Hero” by Theresa Helburn, and “Riders to the Sea,” by John Millington Synge. The box plan will open next week.
