CHILD KILLED

CARS COLLIDE MOTHER SUFFERING FROM INJURIES ACCIDENT NEAR WOODLANDS As the result of a collision between two cars at the intersection of the Dacre, Rakauhauka, Grove Bush and Woodlands roads at 11 o’clock yesterday morning, Lorna Mclntyre, aged four years, was admitted to the Park Hospital suffering from serious injuries, to which she succumbed two hours later. Her mother, who was also a passenger in the car, received injuries to her left side and an abrasion on her forehead and she is at present a patient in the hospital. At 8 a.m. Mr J. E. Mclntyre, of Longbush, the father of the child, left Dipton driving a light delivery van in which his wife and child were passengers, the child sitting on her mother’s knee. When crossing the intersection the van was struck near the driver’s compartment by a five-seater touring car, driven by Mr J. Baxter, of Seaward Downs, with his wife and one child as passengers, who was approaching on the left on his way to Lorneville. The child was thrown from the car to the left side of the road and when picked up, was found to be suffering from a cut on the left side of the head. Dr. Pottinger was summoned and ordered her and her mother to be removed to hospital. Both cars were damaged, the left front mudguard of Mr Mclntyre’s van and the left wheel and axle being bent. It is stated that the crossing has been the scene of four previous accidents.
