WAR VETERANS
WASHINGTON ENCAMPMENT. AUTHORITIES CONCERNED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Washington, July 27. Seriously concerned over the remnant of the “bonus” army encamped on Government property here, the Federal authorities to-day considered a course of procedure to evict them, embracing the possibility of martial law as a last resort. America’s “bonus” army of war veterans marched on Washington from all States demanding payment of a colossal cash gratuity for their war services. They have virtually laid siege to Washington, and declare that they will not leave until their demands are granted. This Congress consistently refused to do, and demonstrations were the order of the day. During the debates, members of the army were in constant attendance, some sleeping on the Capitol steps, while others sat talking it over.
