EASTERN DISTRICT TRIAL. TOWN DEFEATS COUNTRY. The Eastern Southland Ladies’ Hockey Association held its second trial match at Hockey Park yesterday afternoon between teams representing the Town and Country clubs. The weather was fine but cold and the heavy state of the playing area slowed up the game considerably. Nevertheless, both teams gave a satisfactory display, the Town team particularly combining well throughout. Town displayed a marked superiority, the forwards combining in a number _of pretty short passing movements, which the opposing backs found it difficult to stop. At half-time the score stood at four to nil in favour of Town. In the second spell, however, Country gave a sounder exhibition, play during this spell being fairly even. The final score was: Town 6, Country 1. For Town, Misses M. White, F. Allen and M. Nicol were outstanding, while Misses C. Dempster and A. McLaren were prominent for Country.
