RUGBY SELECTIONS.

To the Editor. Sir.—ln reply to the query of L.T.B.E. in Friday’s issue I would like to point out he himself introduced a number of irrelevant statements that had no bearing on the points at issue as my first letter in an attempt apparently to belittle the Pirates team in comparison with the team he apparently supports and as I was responsible for bringing forth his vindictive condemnation of Pirates singly and collectively, I considered it my bounden duty to justify them as much as was in my power and replied to his boastings from the viewpoint of a supporter, hence the inadvertent use of the word “us” instead of “them” (Pirates). In any case it has no bearing on the subject and does not help to drag L.T.B.E. out of the mire he has tripped into. I also wish to bring “Fair Sport” to task as I did not say Central were a weak team, but that they were weaker than Western, which has been already proved. And as for “bemoaning etc.,” most of his letter is one long “howl.” There was nothing fair or sporting to ‘run Crosbie down to the lowest’ as although he has not been in the limelight to any great extent this season, it must be admitted he has been poorly served with the ball. Crosbie, who has lost none of his brilliance, is essentially an attacking player and given the ball would make good use of it as Southland selectors well know. If we had a few more of his calibre in Northern even "Fair Sport would not have the effrontery to mention “wooden spoon" in the same breath.—l am etc., DISGUSTED SUPPORTER.
