The 200-ton schooner Protea, which cost £l2OO when she was built at Liverpool, Nova Scotia, in 1918, fetched only £3O at an auction in Cape Town recently. London’s trams are expected to show a deficit of £BB,OOO on the financial year just closing, the greatest drop being in the penny fares. Since 1922-23 there has been a deficit every year except two.
