ANGLO-CATHOLICISM
EFFECT ON CHURCH. COUNTERACTING INFLUENCE. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, July 27. A meeting of members of the Church of England was held last evening at which it was stated that in many parishes people were dropping away from the church because, clergymen were introducing matter that did not belong to the Anglican service. Only a week ago it was stated that in one parish, not a local one, the clergyman had certain ornaments on the altar of a new church and some families walked out. It was contended by one speaker that practices of AngloCatholicism tended to drive people from the church.
A committee was appointed to form a Laymen’s Society to counteract the influence of Anglo-Catholicism in the services.
