Two men, Norman Bcrnsten and George Davison, had a fortunate escape when a lorry was struck by a train at the Smart road level crossing to-day, the vehicle being completely wrecked. The lorry, which was owned by the Taranaki County Council and driven by Berntsen, was crossing the lines at a slow speed when the men saw the train approaching.
