TAPANUI NOTES
WOMEN’S DIVISION. (From Oui- Correspondent). At a meeting of the Women’s Division held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Tapanui, on Tuesday, a demonstration was given by the Home Science lecturers, Misses Johnston and Crowe, from Dunedin. The subject, “The Fireless Cooker” was interesting, a “cooker” being on view for inspection and demonstration. The hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Arnold and Rodger.
At the usual monthly meeting of the Women’s Division held on Friday afternoon, Dr Robertson gave a lecture on “Common Colds,” the symptoms and treatment for babies, children and adults. A euchre tournament and dance were held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Tapanui, on Wednesday evening, in aid of the funds of the local cricket club. Progressive euchre was ' played till suppei’ was served. Dancing followed to music supplied by Mrs H. Grace, Miss J. Quin playing one extra. The ladies’ prize, was won by Mrs Arnold. Mr Rutherford and Mr J. A. McDonald tied for the men’s prize and drew, Mr Rutherford winning the shaving mug.
The Kelso branch of the Women’s Division and the Farmers’ Union held a social in Kitching’s Hall on Wednesday evening. The evening was spent in dancing. Mr I. D. Revie gave a short address dealing with the Women’s Division and the Fanners’ Union.
The P.W.M.U. and Girls’ Auxiliary held a social in the Presbyterian S. S. Hall on Friday evening. There was a good attendance, and the funds for the mission work of the church will benefit by nearly £lO. On Saturday afternoon the children to the number of about 60 were entertained to afternoon tea by the ladies.
Both junior and senior football matches were played at Waikoikoi on Saturday afternoon, when there was a good attendance of visitors. ’Koi juniors had an easy victory over Waikaka juniors, but the match between ’KoiKelso and Heriot A was closely contested, the final scores being Heriot A 11 ’Koi-Kelso 9. Mr F. Spittle jnr., was referee for the juniors and Mr P. Boylen for the senior game. At the conclusion of the first round, of basketball matches, the premier position is held by Waikoikoi, seven points, High School A being second with six points.
On Saturday afternoon the semi-final for the O.F.C.A. trophy was played on the Dunrobin golf links, Miss Low winning from Mrs King, and Mrs Fisher from Miss Black. In the men’s competition I. McKenzie won from A. McKenzie, and L. Pryde from A. Nicolson.
