MAGISTRATE’S COURT

SITTING AT GORE. A, short sitting of the Gore Magistrate’s court was held yesterday morning before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M. George Anthony Silva, Dunedin, on a charge of being found illegally on a racecourse, was convicted and fined £3, with court costs 10/-. Detective R. Lean, of Invercargill, stated that he had found the man on the Gore racecourse on February 25, although accused was not legally entitled to be there owing to previous offences committed. Duncan McEwan, Redan, Wyndham, for failing to keep his car to the left of the traffic dome at the intersection of Ardwick and Ashton streets, Gore, was convicted and ordered to pay costs 12/and witness’s expenses 2/6. William White, Gore, for driving a motor cycle without a license was convicted and fined 20/-, and ordered to pay Court costs 10/- with witness’s expenses 2/6. George Smith, Gore, appeared on a charge of driving a car without a driver’s license. He said he was unable to get one at Tapanui and had been unable to get one since. He was working on a farm and only drove his car at odd times. He was convicted and fined 20/- and ordered to pay Court costs 10/- with witness’s expenses 2/6. Judgment was given .in an adjourned case in which George James Winton, Invercargill, was charged with riding a motor cycle on the Main South Road near Charlton at night without having proper headlights attached. He was convicted and fined 20/- and was ordered to pay Court costs 22/- and witnesses’ expenses £1 19/11. On a further charge of riding a motor cycle in a manner dangerous to the public he was convicted and discharged.
