A NARROW ESCAPE
NURSE’S HOME DESTROYED. FIRE AT CHRISTCHURCH. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, May 31. The Nurses’ Home, a six-roomed wooden building, attached to St. Helens Maternity Hospital in Harper street, Sydenham, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The seven nurses sleeping on the premises were awakened by the smoke and heat at 12.30 and had a fortunate escape. Only the fact that they were used.to sudden calls prevented serious consequences. They saved a few personel effects. The building, which is the property of the Government, carried no insurance.
