AN INCREASING LOSS

AUCKLAND TRANSPORT BOARD. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, May 31. An estimated loss of £21,137 for the current year compared with an actual loss of £18,318 for the year ended on March 31 last is disclosed in the estimates of the Auckland Transport Board. The chairman said that it was hoped partly to bridge the gap by obtaining some relief from the payments of sinking funds and by a revision of the working conditions of the traffic staff, but not by a further wage cut. If the sinking funds could be reduced to a maximum of one and a-half per cent, the saving annually would be £15,302. On the casting vote of the chairman the board decided to increase the cost of concession tickets from next Monday.
