GIFT EVENING. (From Our Correspondent.) On the eve of her approaching marriage Miss Millie Ericson was tendered a gift evening by the residents of Otara in the Public Hall, on Saturday evening, a very large gathering being present to do honour to the guest of the evening. The evening took the form of a dance. Music was supplied by the Misses Jennings (2), A. Black and M. Thwaites and Messrs A. Downie, Black and S. Thwaites. After supper had been provided by the ladies Mr C. Casey on behalf of the district, referred to the guest’s many good qualities and wished her every happiness in her future. He then called upon Mr A. Black to open up a varied assortment of useful articles and this was done in humorous vein. Mr A. Ericson, junior, replied on behalf of his sister. The evening concluded with musical honours. Hall Meeting. The adjourned annual meeting of the Otara Public Hall Committee was held on the 14th instant, Mr J. Taylor, chairman, presiding over a fair attendance. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year. Messrs F. A. Hughes (chairman), C. Casey (secretary), re-elected, Messrs W. Thwaites, R. Thwaites, D. C. Munro, D. Casey, J. McGarvie, J. Taylor, F. Ericson. The finances of the hall are in a very flourishing condition, showing a credit of approximately £l9. With this sum in hand the committee will be able to partially pay off the debt on the hall, which would then be clear. It was decided to call tenders for a caretaker for the hall. Euchre. The winners of last week’s euchre tournaments were: Hall, Mrs F. A. Hughes and Mr C. Casey; Hockey: Mrs Ann Jennings and Mr Frank Ericson.
