WAIKAWA NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) At Waikawa on Friday, May 20, a birthday dance was given in honour of three pioneers—Mrs Wybrow, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Currie. Mr D. McDougall, M.P., was one of the speakers. The three ladies led off in the grand march. Music for the dancing was supplied by the Hinemoa Orchestra. The hall was crowded with visitors from all surrounding districts. The residents of Quarry Hills were hosts at an evening given to Miss Ellen Gutzewitz prior to her marriage. The happy crowd present enjoyed an evening’s dancing, also a song by Miss L. McManus. After supper Mr _C. Lamb made reference to the period when Miss Gutzewitz was acting as teacher at the local and Waikawa Valley schools in a relieving capacity. Mr J. McDonald also spoke on behalf of the residents, mentioning Miss Gutzewitz’s and Mr Buckingham’s popularity. Mr Lamb asked Miss Gutzewitz to accept the many gifts displayed. Mr Buckingham suitably replied on behalf of Miss Gutzewitz.
