BRITISH COAL BILL
PRESENT SCHEMES TO CONTINUE. WAGES NOT MENTIONED. (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, May 27. The Coal Bill received a formal first reading in the House of Commons yesterday and will pass .ill stages by next Thursday. The seven-hour day was originally suspended in 1926 in favour of a 7j-hour day, and last year the Labour Government passed an Act continuing the 7i-he>ur day and maintaining minimum wages for a further twelve months. The Bill provides for a continuance until 1937 of the schemes already operating for the production, supply, and sale of coal, as well as the continuation of the 7i-hour day indefinitely. Wages are not mentioned.
