IN TOWN AND OUT
NEWS OF THE DAY Basketball Team’s Suspension. At present a petition is being circulated among basketball players asking the Southland Basketball Association to lift the suspension imposed on the Kiwi senior team. It is understood that approximately 150 signatures have so far been secured among the town teams. » » • • Local Broadcasting. Mr A. W. Jones (president of the Southland Radio Club) announced to a Tim: 3 reporter on Saturday that the club had practically completed negotiations for the continuation of the Invercargill broadcasting service through 4ZP. It was hoped to resume the broadcasting of church and dinner music sessions almost immediately and provide a service of at least 25 hours a week from 4ZP. * * « ♦ Appreciation Expressed. The secretary of the Southland Motor Association (Mr J. S. Dick) has received the following letter from a woman member of the association, enclosing her subscription: “Really, for the amount of work which the association does, I think the subscription is very little. All motorists are deeply indebted to the association for the work and interest which is steadily going on. We would be hopelessly lost many a time if it were not for the signposts.” Mr Dick has received a considerable number of similar letters, commending! the work of the association. • * • • Edendalc Cheese Sales. “I was very much surprised to see in; your paper the other morning a letter sympathizing with the Edendale Dairy Company for being unable to sell its cheese this season,” said Mr T. R. Eades, chairman of directors of the company, to a Times reporter on Saturday. “The letter is a misrepresentation of the facts. The directors decided to consign all this season’s cheese and no difficulty whatever has been encountered in selling on consignment. The account sales received up to date show that prices received on consignment have' been equal to the best that could be obtained locally f.o.b. In fact, one consigning house whiqh has handled one-third of the output has returned record prices on consignment for New Zealand to Edendale.” Mr Eades showed the reporter a chart of shipments and sales which showed that only one shipment had realized less than GO/- (and this was just below that figure), while all the rest had ranged up to 64/- per cwt.
