COLAC BAY NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) A large number of tourists and holidaymakers visited Colac during Easter. Several campers also pitched their tents at Hinetui Point where good camping ground is available. The fishermen have been favoured with fine weather lately and some good catches of groper and cod have been reported. A good crop of chou molier may be seen on the property of Mrs H. Spears, of Colac. Some have attained the height of about sft. Steady progress is being made by the men employed by the Public Works on Pollard Road. The single unemployed men who are working on the main highway between Colac and Riverton are also making steady progress. On Tuesday, April 5, the Maori Methodist mission party is holding a concert in the Drill Hall. On Sunday last they held a church service in the Kaik Hall when the Girl Guides, under Lieutenant Egerton, held a church parade. On Saturday, April 2, 'the Ist Company Colac Girl Guides travelled to Invercargill to attend the sports rally held there at the Showgrounds. They were accompanied by Lieutenants Egerton and Wadsworth. In a letter received recently by a local resident from one of the local “birders” who went to the islands this year, it was stated that the birds were in splendid condition and, should fine weather prevail during the season, a record catch should be obtained. Mr and Mrs Ludlow and son, of Invercargill, were the guests of Mr and Mrs R. Whittle during Easter. Mrs Shirley (Orepuki) spent Easter weekend at Colac as the guest, of Mrs M. White. Messrs Gorrie (Orawia) and Bates (Merrivale) were the guests of Mr and Mrs Bates at Easter. Miss G. Pont has returned home from a holiday in Invercargill. Miss E. Duncan (Dunedin) spent Easter with the Misses E. and J. Wadsworth (Colac). Mr and Mrs B. Griffiths and family (Opio) spent the week-end'with Mrs Neilson (Round Hill).

Mr and Mrs J. Kitto (Opio) spent Easter with Mrs C. Marsh (Colac). Mr and Mrs W. Hodges and family are holidaying at Makarewa. Mrs Martin and Miss Martin (2) spent Easter at "Shirely House.” Mr and Mrs B. Beadle and family have taken up residence at Colac. Mr and Mrs Thompson and family (Athol)

are visiting Mr and Mrs E. Shore (Colac). Mr F. Whittle (Waimatuku) spent the week-end with his mother, Mrs R. Whittle. Miss McClean, of the local school staff, spent the Easter holidays in Invercargill. /Miss A. Laurie has returned home from her holiday at Clifden. Miss C. Wixon (Pahia) is visiting her grandmother, Mrs Te Au, Point Road, Colac. Amongst those who attended the Oddfellows Lodge dance held in Riverton on Easter Monday night were: Misses J. and E. Wadsworth, M. Cleaver, F. Egerton, E. Duncan, R. Patterson, and Messrs Cleaver, Scott, Ryan, Fishej, Bates and Gorrie. Miss N. Barrett (Temuka) is staying with her sister, Mrs B. Davis (Colac). Mrs Conley and family (Invercargill) visited Mrs A. Patterson at Easter.
