DOG TRIALS

MOSSBURN FIXTURE KEEN INTEREST TAKEN. After being favoured by fine weather for two days, the Mossburn Collie Trial Club was unlucky in experiencing heavy rain for yesterday, which was to be the concluding day of its annual trials. It was found to be impossible to complete all the events, however, and it is expected that conclusion will be reached to-day. So heavy was the rain that at times the landscape was shut -out from view from the grounds. Nevertheless, there was an interested crowd present all day. The trials were held on an ideal hillside location on Mr G. P. Chewings’ property, a short distance from the township. The sheep used for the occasion were loaned by Mr F. Christie. The trials were, conducted by a conscientious band of officials, at the head of which was the president, Mr A. Chartres. The secretarial duties were carried out by Mr A. Newton, while Mr T. Prendergast officiated as judge. So far four events have been completed. The local event was won by Mr J. E. Royds’ Nell, Air W. E. Hazlett’s Moss being second, Mr G. P. Chewings, with his wellknown competitor Scott, won the Maiden event, Mr M. Egan’s Meg being second. Tlie All-Comers' event was won by Mr A. T. Miller’s Kip, Mr J. Anderson’s Toby Again and Mr W. E. Hazlett’s Moss being second. Mr Hazlett’s Moss secured a win in the Short Pull and Yard event, the second placed dog being Mr C. Smith’s 'Chance. Towards the close of the afternoon a start was made with the Maiden Huntaway. which will be completed to-day. Detailed results are as follows: — LOCAL EVENT. She held in the ring very well. Moss cast out smartly on the left keeping wide and making a good head in Imin. 45sec. The dog made a good approach and lifted the sheep quietly, showing a good command. He pulled nicely in a good line to the ring in Ginin. 40scc. He let the sheep out of the ring once, show ing good work at the ring. He completed in Btnin. 20sec. Flo went out straight on the right, taking a good cast and making a good head in Imin. 42sec. She lifted carefully and pulled steadily in a very good line to the ring in 7min. 22sec, holding in the ring very good and taking full time. Moss went out on the right and, keeping a very good cast made a good head in Imin. 48sec. He liftbd the sheep carefully and pulled steadily in a good, fair line to the ring in Gmin. 15sec. He lifted the sheep quietly and pulled steadily, letting the sheep drift slightly out of line to the ring. The time was 6min. 50sec. The holding in the ring was good. Meg cast out smartly on the right and came in a bit on her cast. She went out again and made a good head in Imin. 30sec. She lifted the sheep carefully and pulled steadily in a good line to the ring in 7min. 45sec. She let the sheep out of the ring and wig-wagged slightly getting them back again. Toby Again cast out wide on the right, stopping several times but making a good head in Imin. 40scc. He lifted the sheep carefully and pulled nicely in good line to the ring. Time, smin. 20sec. Maid hunted out. straight on the right. She set the sheep when sighted, went out and short headed in Imin. 42sec. She lifted the sheep steadily, pulled well in a good line, passed the ring and got back again in Bmin. 45sec. Her holding in the ring was fair, full time being taken.

Moss went out smartly, keeping a good even cast but stopped several times. He headed in 2min. 25sec, lifted the sheep carefully and pulled in a fair line. He was rather fast. The sheep got past the ring but were back in again in 6min. 45sec. Glen hunted out smartly on the left, taking a good even cast and making a good head in Imin. 53sec. He lifted the sheep carefully and pulled nicely' in a good line to the ring in 7min. 22sec. He showed good work at the ring, only one sheep getting out. Toby went out smartly on the right, keeping a good (even cast and heading in 2min. He lifted the sheep quietly, but was inclined to pull a little fast, keeping a bit tight on his sheep. Bsec., lifted the sheep carefully and pulled steadily in a good line to yard in 6min. 40sec. He. failed to yard on time, hut showed very good work at the yards. Kate went out on the right keeping a good fair cast and making a good head in Imin. 55sec. She lifted the sheep carefully and pulled nicely in a good line to the yards in smin. 40sec. She failed to yard on time but worked the yards very .well.
