BRAVERY REWARDED
HUMANE SOCIETY. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, March 21. Several awards for bravery were made to-duv by the Court of Directors of the Royal -Humane Society of New Zealand. The awards were: Bronze Medal.—W. I. Morgan, master of the tug Robey, Wellington, attempting to rescue a man from drowning after the wreck of the Progress on May 1, 1931; Joyce and Shona Lyon, Balclutha, aged 15 and 14 respectively, who beat off an infuriated bull which was attacking their father.
Certificates. —L. M. Stephenson, New Plymouth; G. Williams and N. Crighton, seamen on the Opihi for rescuing two men from the Paritutu Rock, New Plymouth, on June 14, 1931; Louis Cecil, aged 46, Auckland, for rescuing three girls from drowning at Henderson on January 4; John Frederick Graham Freeman, aged 70, Westport, for rescuing a girl from drowning on January 8.
Bronze medals were awarded Puton, Henry and Etehe and certificates to J. D. Campbell and Fred Rennie, Marteu, and letters of commendation to Ua Aitu and Makea Tinirau, residents of Rarotonga, who played various parts in the rescue of fishermen in a storm near the island.
