TAXATION BILL
AMERICA’S FINANCES FOOD AND CLOTHING ' LEVIES REMOVAL BY COMMITTEE (Per United Press Association.) Washington, March 21. A spirit of compromise on the Billion Dollar Tax Bill led the House Ways and Means Committee to-day to vote for the removal of the proposed levies on foods, clothing, and prescribed medicines. The decision goes far towards beating down all opposition to the 2.25 per cent, lew on manufactured articles, and eliminates about 150,000,000 dollars from the revenue of 595,000,000 dollars expected from the levy under the original programme. The acting-chairman (Mr Crisp) said the committee must get something else to make up the difference.
