DOG TRIALS

THE WAKATIPU CLUB. CONCLUDING DAY’S EVENTS. The final day of the Wakatipu Collie Dog Club’s trials took place on Saturday. The Huntaway was completed in the morning and the local event in the afternoon. The former was won by R. Trotter and the latter by A. Kennedy. The trials were u great success, the entries being fully up to those of previous years. The success or the trials was due to a hard-working set of officials headed by Mr D. Jardine as president. The secretaries, Messrs E. Bremner and J. W. McLean, who are popular with dog owners, put a lot of time into their work, which is always up to date. Results:— HUNTAWAY WITH SLEW, about a quarter of a mile; sheep to be driven through three sets of flags. Prizes, £lO and silver cup presented by Mr Len Barrett, £7, £2 2/-, £l, and. 10/6. McChesney’s Queen 35 3 Roy went through the first poles op the first attempt, and through the second and third poles in a very good line. The dog hunted well. Time, 2min Usee. Speed hunted the sheep through the first poles and then slewed fairly well, but was slightly out of position. Hunted through the second and third poles very well. Time, 4min 45sec. Star went through the first set of flags correctly, the hunting being tair. The dog was a little careless between the first and second sets of flags, but hunted through the second and third sets, though a little out of position. Time, 3min 40sec. Glen hunted the sheep through the first and second sets of flags in a good line, but the dog was too close to the shee" One sheep broke away, but was recovered and the three were hunted through the last set. Time 2min lOsec. Queen went through the first poles in a fair line, and through the second and third poles in fair style, but the dog was barking at the man. There was more slewing than hunting. Time, 3min 25sec. . LOCAL EVENT. Sheep hunted through two sets of flags and past pole. Headed and brought back to ring and held. Dog to show noise in huntaway. Prizes, £5 and silver cup presented by Mr W. R. Paterson, £3, £2, £1 and 10/6. Points: Huntaway 10, slew 6, command 5, leading and bringing back 8, holding in ring 3, command 5, total 44.
