Her Excellency Lady Bledisloe, acting on medical advice, has cancelled all her public engagements until after Easter in order to effect a more rapid and complete recovery from her recent injury.
The Hon. W. Stevenson, M.L.C., left for Wellington by yesterday afternoon’s express.
Mr E. C. Isaacs, of the literary staff of the Dunedin Evening Star, who spent his annual vacation in Invercargill, returned to the north by the express yesterday afternoon.
Mr M. J. Savage (L., Auckland West) was granted five days’ leave of absence on account of continued illness when the House of Representatives met last evening, states our special reporter. The Southland Rugby Referees’ Association at its annual meeting last evening appointed Mr W. Stott as its delegate to the annual conference of the New Zealand Rugby Referees’ Association to be held in Timaru during Easter.
Mr J. R. Butland, of Auckland, Government representative on the New Zealand Honey Control Board, will leave for England by the Niagara on April 5, on business connected with the marketing of New Zealand honey in Britain and on the Continent. Mr Butland expects to be absent for six or eight months.
