ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

INVERCARGILL CENTRE. A meeting of the committee of the Invercargill Centre of the St. John .Ambulance. Association, over which Dr Gibson presided, was held in the Ambulance Hall, Esk street, on Friday. Thirteen members were in attendance. It was decided that classes be held as follows: Men’s first aid class, commencing on April 11; ladies’ first aid class, commencing on June 7; Railway division class to be arranged among members of that division. Arrangements were made for lecturers, examiners, advertising, etc. In connection with the coming classes it was reported that considerable interest was already being shown, the inquiries received pointing to enrolments being made in strong numbers. It was decided to call a special general meeting within four weeks for the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet for the year ending December 31, 1931, and also to receive recommendations from the committee that the year of the Invercargill Centre end on September 30 to coincide with that of St. John’s Gate. A sub-committee consisting of the chairman of committee, Dr Gibson and four members was set up to frame and present for adoption at the special general meeting a set of rules governing the working of the Invercargill Centre. It was decided to write to the late president, Mr T. Hide, expressing the association’s sympathy in his illness and wishing him a speedy recovery to health. Mr Hide’s resignation was recently received with regret, his ill-health being the cause. The resignation of the secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Skipworth, was received with regret. It was decided to place in the minutes a record of appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Mr Skipworth in the past. Several members, in speaking to the motion, eulogized Mr Skipworth’s work and expressed regret at his resignation.

In his reply Mr Skipworth said he also regretted severing his connection in the capacity of secretary and treasurer and although pressure of other interests had actuated it, his interest and support would always be with the association. Mr Ira D. Mclvor was appointed to fill the office vacated by Mr Skipworth.
