WOOL SALE

AUCKLAND FIXTURE PREVIOUS PRICES NOT MAINTAINED DISCOURAGING' SEASON (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, March 20. The third and final Auckland wool sale, which was held on Saturday, brought to an end one of the most discouraging seasons on record. Prices for fine wools were one penny lower than those obtained at the Auckland sale in January and 'at the Napier sale last Wednesday, inferior qualities being approximately three-farthings lower. As the prices obtained were Id to 3d lower than the rates ruling at the commencement of the season, growers who had held their wool back in expectation of an improvement were gravely disappointed. The average price for crossbreds was a shade over 4d a pound or approximately £5 14/- a bale, compared with £6 10/a bale received at the January sale. The bulk of- the clip was crossbred, a great deal of it being rough and yellow and carrying a good deal of seed. Fine crossbred sold freely at 41d to 54d per lb, some lots fetching 6d and 6Jd. A certain amount of poorer crossbred was passed in at 24d to 3:Jd. % The range'of prices was as follows, the January prices being shown also for pur-
