The ketch Lily arrived with a cargo of fish from Stewart Island at 12.20 p.m. on Saturday and left to. return to the island at 11.15 a.m. yesterday. The Union Company's steamer Gabriella is expected to arrive at Bluff from Sydney to-day to discharge Australian cargo. She leaves on completion for northern ports via Dunedin. The present week should see cc<:siderable activity on the waterfront. The Gabriella, due to-day, will not remain in port long; but with the Canadian-Conqueror due in a couple of days, closely followed by the Kaimai, Somerset and other vessels, there should be a briskness about the wharf which has been noticeably lacking of late. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Tongariro is expected to clear Tokomaru Bay late to-day for Bluff direct, where she is due on Thursday.' The vessel is to sail for Port Chalmers on Saturday. The Union Company’s Kaimai was scheduled to clear Port Ahuriri at 2 p.m. on Saturday for Bluff, via Lyttelton. The vessel is due at Bluff on Wednesday. The Union Company’s chartered steamer Narbada has left Batavia (Java) for Calcutta, which port she leaves early in April for New Zealand via Penang, Singapore, and Saraarang. . The Norfolk, which sailed from Auckland on February 11, arrived at Panama -on March 3, and sailed on March 4 for London and west of England ports. The Federal Line steamer Cornwall arrived at Auckland on Thursday morning from Liverpool. She is carrying general ca/go from west coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. She is duo at the last-named port about March 29. raki is reported to have reached Vancouver on March 4 from Sydney. The vessel will load at Pacific coast ports for Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne and Sydney. She is scheduled to clear Los Angeles about March 17 and to reash Auckland about April 8. Latest advice from London is that the twin-screw motor vessel which is being built at the Isle of Wight to the order of the Melanesian Mission will arrive at Auckland early in October. According to the specifications, the new ship, which is to replace the well-known Southern Cross, will have “a neatly-curved stem and graceful counter stern.” She will be of composite construction, with steel framing and wooden planking, and is to be rigged as a fore and aft schooner, with ample sail area for auxiliary purposes. In the general description it is specified that the vessel must be “suitable for missionary service in the Melanesian Islands.” The principal dimensions of the vessel will be as follow: —Length, overall, 106 feet; beam, outside planking, 24 feet; draught, when loaded 10 feet. Her speed is to be not less than nine knots. Below deck there will be the crew’s quarters, a cargo hold to carry 50 tons, engine room and accommodation for native women, On deck there will be a large teak deckhouse amidships, containing three cabins, galley and storeroom. Another large deckhouse on the aft deck will contain the captain’s and bishop’s cabins, three double berth cabins, dining saloon, pantry with refrigerator, and two bathrooms. The' bridge deck will extend over the whole of the aft deckhouses and out to the sides of the ship. The bottom of the vessel will be sheathed throughout with copper to one foot above the load water line. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
