Arrested at Linz on suspicion ofc murdering a builder’s wife, Louisa Janks, the crime being described as the most horrible in Austrian history, Franz Leithgoeb, aged 53, an ex-butcher, admitted his guilt. He also confessed to murdering his grandmother in 1920 and five other women since. Two of the victims were found dead in their beds, their deaths being attributed to misadventure. Leithgoeb says he strangled them. Later he admitted killing two others in 1916 and 1920, setting fire to the bodies.
