In answer to “Parsley” (Riverton), “Reader” sends: Gather a quantity of parsley and pack tightly into a pan, add water enough to barely cover and boil for about an hour. Strain overnight, and next day bring to boil and add one cup sugar to each cup liquid, and boil 20min or Ahr. till it sets. Bottle and cork, well tie with string, and keep in a cool place. This can be used after a few days, but the longer it is kept the better it becomes. For every 100 walnuts 2 quarts of cold water and fiozs of salt; prick the nuts first, put them into a basin, sprinkle over the sijlt, then add the water; change the brine every 3 days for 9 days; stir every night and morning; after they have been in the 9 days, take out and expose them to the air and sun till quite black; for the pickle for 100 walnuts use i gallon vinegar, 2oz whole black pepper, 3oz ginger, mace, cloves, mustard seed, and boil 5 minutes; strain and pour over the walnuts. * * * * Hand Lotion. 12ozs water, cornflour, loz lanoline, Boz glycerine, 15 drops pure carbolic acid, 2 teaspoons lavender water. Bring almost to the boil. Store in an earthenware jar or bottles. Rub well into the hands frequently.
