EASTERN-NORTHERN TEAM. DEFEATED BY SOUTH OTAGO. The annual match between the EasternNorthern and South Otago teams was played at Balclutha on Saturday, the South Otago team winning by 50 runs. The weather was fine but cold. EasternNorthern batted first, compiling 107. The innings opened badly, Bogue and Rush being dismissed early. McKenzie and Grant were associated in a useful partnership, but the next three wickets fell cheaply. Mollar, Caffell and Edie batted well. South Otago reached Eastern-Northern’s total with the loss of five wickets, chiefly as the result of a good partnership between Henderson and Dunn, both of whom retired. These were the only double-figure scorers on the home side. Eastern-Northern shaped much better on going to the wickets a second time, Faulks batting particularly well for 81 not out.
