SUNDAY EXCURSION
ENGINE DERAILED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, January 18. Passengers who left Masterton for Wellington on the 8.45 a.m. Sunday special train finished their journey in motor buses well behind schedule. At Kaitoke the engine was uncoupled and ran backwards towards the water tank but in some way became derailed. Strenuous efforts were made to put the engine back on the rails but they failed. Petone was communicated with and two buses left there to bring the 80 passengers to the city. The engine as not replaced on the rails until 1.10 a.m.
