GORE Mr and Mrs H. R. Domigan and children have returned from Kaka Point. Mr and Mrs G. 0. Hamilton, who have been on a camping trip to Waikaia bush, have returned home. Mrs F. D. Scott and children have returned from a holiday at Timaru. Miss R. Blaikie and party are spending a holiday camping at Queenstown. Mr and Mrs L. G. Thomson have returned from a holiday at Kaka Point. Mr and Mrs F. Reid, Dunedin, are the guests of Mrs F. Wallis, Crewe street. Mr and Mrs D. Little have returned from a holiday at Riverton. Mrs A. E. Boult and daughter have returned from Timaru. Miss H. Lindsay, Bluff, was the guest of Mrs J. J. Green, Devon street, during the week. Mesdaines J. A. Blaikie and R. J. Telfer and Messrs R. W. McCreath and A. H. W. Aitken, who were in Timaru for the South Island croquet tournament, have returned home. On the whole the Gore competitors were most successful. Mrs Telfer was run-ner-up in the ladies’ championship. Mr McCreath won the handicap singles and with his partner was runner-up in the championship doubles. Miss Ida Mac Gibbon has returned from a holiday at Queenstown. Mr and Mrs J. A. S. Aitken and partyspent a few days camping at Waikaia bush recently. Miss McVeigh returned last week from Oamaru.

A pleasant function took place at the Gaiety Hall last Tuesday evening, the occasion being a twenty-first birthday party in honour of Miss Winnie Columb. The evening was spent in dancing, Bain’s Orchestra supplying the music. During supper, several toasts were honoured, that ol “The Guest” being proposed by Mr N. Kelly- and responded to by Mr J. Columb. The" birthday cake with its twenty-one candles, was cut by Miss Columb and Mr C. L. King, on behalf of those present, presented her with a golden key. At the same time he conveyed to her best wishes for future happiness and prosperity. Amongst the many- present were Mr and Mrs J. Columb, Mrs Wright, Misses N. and M. Columb, E. Graham, K. Cronin, M. Shea, K. O’Connor, Belsham (2) (Invercargill), E. Collins, M. aud K. Kelly, E. Allison, M. Hoffman, S. and M. Columb, C Schultz, C. and M. Ferris, Z. Fitzgerald, Messrs F. Crosbie, C. L. King, F. Wylie, H. Belsham (Invercargill), T. Cronin, M. Ussher, W. Leishman, Shaw, J. Ferris, J. McMath (Riversdale), Edgar (3), J. Thomson (Wendonside), D. O’Brien, Kelly (3) (Okapua), F. and I. Davis, Scott, J. Lawlor, Quilter, J. Windle, R. Hamilton, Wright (2) (Freshford), G. Bain, I. Greenfield, L. V. Fitzgerald, F. and J. Columb. The staff of the local Post Office held a most enjoyable picnic over the week-end at the Gore racecourse. The day was beautifully fine and a large number of friends were present. Races and games were held and the children were treated to numerous scrambles for sweets and prizes. - The members of the Tramping Club had a beautiful day for their excursion over the week-end to Cattle Flat and Mataura Gorge.
