COMPETITIONS RESUMED A AND B GRADE MATCHES PLAYED SATURDAY’S RESULTS The resumption of A and B grade interclub tennis matches on Saturday afternoon was favoured with ideal weather. In A grade Invercargill defeated Gladstone, Central defeated St. Mary’s and Waihopai won by default from Bluff. The Georgetown v. Southend game was postponed by mutual consent. In the B grade victories were gained by Southend, Invercargill, Waihopai I and II and Kennington. A GRADE INVERCARGILL v. GLADSTONE. VISITORS’ BRILLIANT DISPLAY. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, January' 16. The match between the Australian women players and Otago was continued at Logan Park to-day in perfect weather and before the largest attendance ever seen at the courts. The display given by' the visitors was again on the highest plane and, in the doubles especially, rose to a degree of brilliancy seldom seen in Dunedin. The Australian ladies again won the majority of the matches but it was very pleasing to note that in the singles the Otago ladies were capable of extending them almost to the full with the exception of Miss Valkenburg, who always appeared to be playing well within herself. Conditions at Wilding Park were excellent for the resumption of the Wilding Shield tennis match between Canterbury' and tho combined districts of Otago, North Otago and South Canterbury. Canterbury emerged from the contests yesterday' without a loss and carried on in the same winning vein to-day', so they will now have to play Wellington for the right to meet Auckland in the Shield challenge round. The southern players are not used to grass court, play although they' showed improved form on yesterday.
