COLLISION IN FOG

COASTGUARD BOAT AND FREIGHTER. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) New York, January 15. Much excitement and worry followed a report that a heavy coal freighter in a dense fog off Long Island rammed the coastguard destroyer Herndon with a crew of 95. The Herndon, a highly prized vessel of the anti-rum forces, with her port plates split was lost in the fog for a lengthy period. Finally the freighter took her in tow, but the line broke and the destroyer I was lost again for over an hour. Eventually, however, the Herndon was found and now presumably is being towed into port. As far as is revealed no one was v lost or killed. — fa
