WOMAN AS BUS-OWNER
WIDOW’S PROUD RECORD. The proud claim that she has never had a road accident with her buses is made by Mrs A. E. McMinn, aged 62, of Staffordshire, who in face of fierce competition maintains an almost uninterrupted daily service on the Potteries main bus route. Probably the oldest woman bus-owner in the country, Mrs McMinn learned the business from her husband, who died five years ago. Iler’s is now a one-woman business run with one bus. Mrs McMinn keeps all the accounts, pays out wages, and attends to repairs. "You don’t make a fortune with buses these days,” Mrs McMinn says. "Why some weeks all the profit and much more goes in repairs. I once paid out nearly £lOO a week in this way. But I have no intention of going out of business yet.”
