ROWING

RIVERTON NOTES.

With the regatta drawing near most of the boys are looking very fit, and the river is a busy place each evening. The writer has not noticed any crews out in the mornnigs this season. Crews should endeavour to have a row in the mornings, as a mile dash before breakfast would brighten up their wind.

The seniors are putting in a lot of work, and both crews will be in great fettle for Boxing Day. The B seniors are fortunate in having a good coach taking them in hand. It is a pity that Riverton have not a few more, such as William Campbell, to impart their knowledge to rowers in general. If they take notice of what he says they will benefit by his advice. The junior four are still in need of a lot of work. It is a pity there is just four of this class in the club.

The A maidens are going along nicely. The B crew may spring a surprise.

The senior pairs promise to be of interest to the local club, as three pairs are nominated. The A pair (V. Branks and A. Beer) are likely to lead the way. The B and C pairs are evenly matched and will be fighting hard for honours. The junior pairs are like the four —not enough practice. The B pair may be the hardest at the finish. The A maiden pair look to have a mortgage on this event, but if the B crew get away well they will make themselves felt with the incoming tide. The youths’ pair are short, but are solid, and should do all right in this event. The scullers are having a week at it with a good boat to practice on. On their showing the Green and Whites will more than hold their own in these events on Regatta Day.
