Plunket Society

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Invercargill Plunket Society was held in Miss Hackworth’s office on Wednesday, December 16. Those present were: Mesdames 11. W. Royds (president), Ritchie Crawford, R. M. Strang, W. S. Todd, A. E. Bath, J. D. Mitchell, J. Thomson, J. S. Nelson and A. S. Russell. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames J. Callender, J. Macleod, Parkin, Stewart, Derbie, Carswell, Campbell and Montgomery. Resignations from ' the committee were received from Mesdames C. A. Stewart and 11. Parkin. Mrs Royds spoke of (he good work done by these ladies on behalf of the Society and their resignations were accepted with regret. It was resolved to renovate the room at Anderson Home which it is proposed to let to a suitable tenant. The committee is very grateful for the sewing done by St. John’s and First Church Rangers. The Rangers have signified their willingness to assist with the sewing at the Karitane-Hunt Hospital and this will be of great assistance. The St. John Rangers will take orders for any handwork, proceeds to go to the Hospital. Orders may be given to Mrs J. S. Nelson, 126 George street (telephone 2055). The committee decided to hold a monthly meeting in January on the usual day. The following are monthly reports:— Reporting from the Karitane-Hunt Hospital, Matron Warneke wrote that there were five babies in on October 31, and during the month 6 mothers and 13 babies were admitted and 6 mothers and 9 babies discharged. On November 30 there were 9 babies in, the largest number on any one day being 4 mothers and 13 babies. Mothers and babies were admitted from Kennington, Otautau, Mokotua and Invercargill (3), while babies were admitted from Wyndham, Lorneville and Invercargill (4). Miss ■ Constance Hore (Riverton) entered for training on November 28. Mbses Jnmes and McSkimming had completed the course and satisfactorily passed their final examination. A hand-worked blanket for a cot had been received from the Girl Guide Local Association.

Nurses Mclntyre and Rhind reporting from Anderson Plunket Home wrote that there had been 52 new cases in town and country, and 34 babies at the centre. Fifty-two new cases had been visited at homes ,and 349 old cases. Four hundred and sixty-six adults, 406 babies, and 61 older children had visited the office, while 875 babies, and 300 older children were under supervision. Six letters had been received and 4 written. Tire general health of the babies had been good. Nurse McIntyre reported that 3 visits had been paid to Waikiwi, 21 visits being paid to homes, w’hile 50 adults, 42 babies, and 5 older children visited the office. There were 2 new cases for the month, and the general health of the babies had been good. Reporting from the out-stations Nurse Rhind wrote that 4 visits had been paid to South Invercargill, where 74 adults, 70 babies, 17 older children and 2 new cases had been treated. The Mothers’ Rest Room had been visited 4 times, and 100 adults, 94 babies, 13 older children, and 6 new cases were treated. The general health of the babies had been good. There were 18 new cases for the month. Nurse Wilson reported that during 2 visits to Ohai, 28 adults, 24 babies, 4 older children and 3 new cases were visited; during 4 visits to Riverton, 17 homes, 54 adults, 48 babies, 4 older children, 3 new cases; during 4 visits to Bluff, 31 homes, 52 adults, 50 babies, 6 plder children, and 3 new cases; during 5 visits to Tuatapere, 30 homes, 82 adults, 72 babies, 3 older children, and 5 new coses; during 2 visits to Otautau, 11 homes, 21 adults, IS babies, 2 older children, and 3 new cases; during 2 visits to Orepuki, 9 homes, 16 adults, 14 babies, 7 older children and 2 new cases. Total number under supervision, 307. The general health was good.
