Dawn
A flush of rose across the grey— The dawning of another day. Thrushes in their leafy bowers Spill their melodies in showers. Little larks sing in the sky As they go soaring ever so high. Dainty, daisies on the lawn Open their petals to greet the dawn And the breeze is wafting a perfume rare That comes from the rosea all dewy and fair.
—Cousin Vita Nelson (16), Green Point, Ocean Beach.
