ANZAC ESSAY
WOODLANDS WINS BANNER. The result of the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ Association’s Anzac Day essay competition was finalized yesterday, the banner being won by the Woodlands School with 47A points. Commenting on the entries the judge stated that some of the essays showed too much evidence of extracts from text books. The winning essays were all good efforts. The six country schools which entered the competition were placed as follows: — Woodlands, 471 points 1 Ohai, 44 points 2 Riverton, 43 points 3 Makarewa, 42 points 4 Edcndale, 35 points 5 Otautau (Std. 6 only), 16 points 6 In addition to the banner the successful pupils in the Woodlands School, Eirlys Hargest (Std. 6 1. F. Piercy (Std. 5) and Ruby Bonney (Std. 4), will each receive a prize from the R.S.A. The banner will be presented at the school break-up by Mr W. Bell, who will represent the R.S.A.
