NEED OF TRAVEL

PRINCE’S ADVICE

INTERNATIONAL ASPECT STRESSED EXCHANGE OF VISITS (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, December 16. At a meeting of the Travel Association the Prince of Wales said too little was known of the charm of Britain, while too much was heard of the financial and industrial difficulties which he regretted Britain shared with the whole world. He emphasized the need for extended travel. If temporarily British people were being dissuaded from travelling abroad for pleasure, apart from business, foreign countries would realize it was merely an emergency measure. As soon as the situation became more stabilized British people would certainly go abroad again just as the Trade Association hoped people in countries overseas would visit Britain.

“Travel and trade are international,” said the Prince, “and it is only by exchanging goods, services and visits that we can live in comfort, peace and mutual understanding. If we always stayed at home and tried to eke out a livelihood by taking in each other’s washing it would be a precarious livelihood for the whole world.”
