Mr R. D. Lumsden, of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company, left yesterday morning for Napier.
Mr W. H. D. Gazzard, first assistant in the North School, has been appointed headmaster of the Nightcaps School.
At the annual meeting of the Gear Meat Company yesterday at Wellington, Sir Harold Beauchamp and Messrs R. Collins and R. W. Gibbs were re-elected directors unopposed.—Press Association message. Sir Bruce Stewart, of Christchurch, is at present on a visit to Invercargill. Sir Bruce flew to Invercargill in his Puss Moth plane for the purpose of transacting some business in Southland. He returns home to-day.
Recent Invercargill visitors to Garston included: Mr and Mrs Henshelwood and Master Henshelwood, Mr and Mrs Tinker, Messrs A. Mclntyre, J. E. Swann, A. Perry, A. E. Tapper, J. W. Smith, J. D. Donaldson, A. R. Wills, Charles Provan, G. R. Adamson. Ofher visitors included Messrs F. Parsons and J. A. Yule (Gore) and J. H. A. McDonald (Winton).
The staff and agents of the A.M.P. Society held a pleasant function on Wednesday evening in the Federal Lounge, when Miss Eileen Brown (who for the last three months has been on special leave) was farewelled in view of her marriage, which takes place this month. On behalf of those present, the district manager, Mr W. R. J. Smythe, presented Miss Brown with a canteen of cutlery and wished her every happiness for the future.
The death occurred at Cromwell recently of Mr George Hayward, a well-known resident of that district. For the. past twenty years he had followed mining at Bendigo and Nevis, and was for a time employed in the scheelite mines at Glenorchy. He contracted miner’s complaint, and for some months past had been indisposed. The late Mr Hayward, who was 50 years of age, was twice married, and is survived by his widow and a grown-up family.
