THE BOYS’ BRIGADE
INVERCARGILL OFFICERS FORMATION OF COUNCIL. At a general meeting of the Invercargill Boys 1 Brigade officers on Monday it was unanimously decided that the time had arrived when the Invercargill officers should form a council to deal with matters of importance appertaining to the movement in Invercargill. Apart from the Southland Battalion Council recently formed, which will be of great benefit io this organization for boys, a council of city officers will help the existing companies in the city, and will assist the churches to form new companies of which there are a few seeking information. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr J. IV. Clark; captain 2nd Invercargill (First Church) Company, vicechairmen, Mr R. Wylie, Captain of Ist Invercargill (Knox Church) Company, and Mr AV. Cathcart, 3rd Invercargill (St. Andrews) Company; Minute secretary, Mr E. Cowie, Lieutenant, 2nd Invercargill (First Church) Company. A matter of importance dealt with by the council was with regard to a letter from the Dominion Council in which it was suggested that the of a full-time secretary and organizer be" engaged for the supervision and direction of the Boys’ Brigade nrovement in New Zealand. Recommended that the question be submitted for consideration at the annual meeting of officers at the forthcoming camp. A resolution was passed that the Council considered the suggestion was premature. The movement numerically was weak as yet and it was felt that the financial burden of a paid secretary- could not be borne. While sympathising with the proposal and knowing of that close direction and help which only- a full-time official could give and which was vital to proper development, it was hoped that the time would come when such an official would be necessary for the proper organization of the movement which had for its object “The Advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys.” The next meeting will be held in January at the Ist Invercargill Company’s headquarters. A motion was passed that the thanks of the Boys’ Brigade be conveyed to the Press for reports and to the Fire Station for the lessons receivefl on fire drill.
