BOWLS. (From Our Correspondent.) On Monday evening a team of four rinks from the Edendalc Bowling Club journeyed to Wyndham and played a friendly match with a like number from the local club. The weather was beautifully fine and the green was in tip top playing order, with the result that a most enjoyable game was experienced. In the handicap singles and doubles for the Wyndham Club, the following further games have been played: Singles.—Burstall beat Ross, Traynor beat De La Mare, Wilson beat Gibson. Doubles.—Macdonald and McKerrow beat Wilson and Stark. Plunket Society. The monthly meeting of the Wyndham branch of the Plunket Society was held in the rest room on Thursday evening. Present: Mcsdames A. A. Wilson senr. (president), Alex. Ross, M. Tangney, W. O. C. McKay, D. N. A. Macpherson, M. G. Leith, E. Pankhurat, T. M. Strang, and H. Hunter (secretary). A successful day at the A. and P. Show was reported on, a large number of mothers and babies taking advantage of the room and nurse’s advice. It was decided to have the Rest Room spring cleaned before next sale day; further, that a letter of thanks and appreciation be sent to the Girl Guides for their good work in attending to lawns and flower gardens. A good attendance of district residents assembled in Mimihau Public Hall last Friday evening to welcome home Mr and Mrs Graham Allan, who have just returned from their honeymoon. Mr John Woods was in the chair. Dancing was indulged in to pianoforte music by Miss Caldwell. After supper had been partaken of, Mr E. Frame, on behalf of the subscribers, asked Mr Allan’s acceptance-of a canteen of cutlery, wishing the newly united couple health, wealth and happiness. Supporting remarks were made by Messrs John Woods, and J. Taylor. Mr Allan suitably replied. Mokoreta-Redan Sports. The annual meeting of the Mokoreta Redan Sports Society was held in the Mokoreta Hall, on Saturday evening, when the president (Mr W. G. Leckie) supervised a good attendance of members. It was decided to hold the annual gathering in Mr John Carnie’s paddock, on Wednesday, January 13, 1932, commencing at 1 p.m. and that the sum of £47 10/- be given in prize money. The programme of events was made the same as in previous years, and will be governed by a like body of efficient officials, with Mr W. G. Leckie as president, and Mr George Patterson as secretary. The Wyndham Pipe Band is to be asked to play during the afternoon, and a donation of £2 was made to the band’s funds. This year members’ tickets will be reduced to 3/6, while non-members will be admitted at the nominal charge of 1/-. The usual dance will be held in the evening for which Leckie’s popular orchestra will supply music. It is pleasing to note that this progressive country' field sports institution has a capital bank balance of £39 odd. Redan School Concert. The annual school concert given by pupils of the above school was held last Friday evening, and it proved one of the most enjoyable yet staged by the scholars. Mr- Duncan McEwan, chairman of the committee, presided, and there was a large attendance of parents and district residents. After a few appropriate remarks by the chairman, the following programme was presented:—Song, school children; recitation, Roderick McDonald; sea chanties, senior pupils (a splendid item, with suitable actions); singing games, junior pupils; song, Harvey Wilson; recitation, Elsie Kiddey; vocal duet, Frank and Bob Wilson; chorus, school children; recitation, Eric Kiddey (with actions by Harvey Wilson); chorus, juniors; dialogue, Gordon MacKenzie, Isabel MacKenzie, Roderick McDonald, Eric Kiddey, Harvey and Frank Wilson (who. with the assistance of two live dogs and a toy one, created a good deal of fun); recitation, Frank Wilson; Nigger Song, seniors (who with their black faces and red lips, acted their parts as to the manner born). In addition to the foregoing children’s items, the following ladies and gentlemen assisted: —Songs by Mrs Thomas Skinner, Messrs H. Kiddey and D. D. Hopkins; recitation, Miss Nelson. Miss Margaret Hunter acted as pianiste throughout. On the call of the chairman, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all who had helped in any way to make the con« cert the success it proved to be, with special reference to the work of Miss Nelson (teacher), for the commendable manner in which she had coached the children. Supper was then dispensed, following which a dance was held.
