LUMSDEN NOTES

TOWN BOARD MEEHS.

The monthly meeting of the Lumsden Town Board was held in the board room on Monday, December 14, when Mr James Campbell presided over a full attendance of members.

Mr T. Small, on behalf of the Caledonian Society, waited on the board regarding the top-dressing of the track at the recreation grounds. Permission was granted Mr Small thanking the board for the hearing accorded him.

It was decided to proceed with the formation of the Heath road according to the estimate of the Southland County engineer. The Swimming Club’s request to have a portion of the concrete removed to allow the pool to be cleaned thoroughly was granted. It was decided that steps be taken to have the sections generously donated to the Swimming Club by the late Mr G. F. Johnson transferred to the Town Board. Mr J. Crosbie’s request to have the footpath past the Railway Hotel improved was granted. It was resolved that the services of the present ranger be dispensed with from December 31 and applications be called for the position for next year. In closing the meeting the president thanked the members for their attendance at meetings and wished them the compliments of the season. The Town Clerk suitably replied.

On Tuesday afternoon. Mrs J. Isaacs was

hostess at a very pleasant afternoon given in honour of Miss Lena Marshall who Is shortly to be married. A number of competitions were held, the winners being Mrs Brown, Mrs Heath and Mrs Charleson. After afternoon tea had been handed round Miss Marshall opened the parcels brought by the guests, then thanking those present for the beautiful gifts and the very kind wishes for her future happiness.

Mr Lance Johnson, of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Wellington, arrived in Lumsden on his annual leave on Monday. Miss Rona Isaacs arrived on Monday from Dunedin.

Miss Rene Hewitson is the guest of Mrs A. W. Murphy. Mr Frank Crosbie is spending a few days in Lumsden at the Railway Hotel. Miss Joyce Holden left on Monday to spend the school vacation at Qmakau.
