WELCOME RAIN
HASTINGS AND NAPIER BENEFIT. (Per United Press Association.) Hastings, December 16. Rain began to fall gently at an early hour in Hastings and Napier this morning and continued almost without intermission until two o’clock this afternoon in light showers, when the intensity suddenly increased. The fall was quite heavy and steady. It has been earnestly wished for during the last three months. Its effect will not be without value to the sheepfarmers and dairy farmers. Fruitgrowers and market gardeners will be especially grateful for the fall and will be looking forward to its continuation throughout the night and even longer. It will do much good to crops of fruit, small fruits and vegetables, all of which were beginning to show a very decided response to the dryness of the weather since October.
