A New Plymouth telegram states that a rainfall of nearly an inch and a-half on Tuesday night ended the dry spell which has affected tho pastures and reduced production*

The Dominion Meteorologist last night issued the following information: Cyclones are centred to-day respectively west of the North Island and off the New South Wales coast, while a weak belt of high pressure extends between southern New Zealand and Tasmania. Winds moderate to strong north-easterly north of New Plymouth and Napier. Of gale force in places. Elsewhere moderate but freshening easterly to southeasterly. Seas in New Zealand waters heavy north of East Cape and offshore north of Cape Egmont. Elsewhere rather rough to rough. In the eastern Tasman Sea strong north-east winds to gales in the northern portion with rough to heavy seas. Moderate to fresh south-easterly winds with rather rough seas in the southern portion. Weather still unsettled, cloudy and misty with rain in most districts. Further heavy falls in the North Island with some flooding, more especially in the northern and east coast portions.

In the report of special prizes awarded by the Southland A. and P. Association published yesterday morning the Farmers’ Dairy Federation’s special prize for Ayrshires should have been credited to Mr R. S. Weir, Seaward Downs and not to Mr A. M. Weir, Menzies Ferry.

Through the activities of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association at Bluff, about a dozen ex-service-men will be employed for a week or so, thus brightening the Christmas season for their dependents. The local body has kept the interests' of ex-servicemen steadily in view and is deserving of great credit for the work it has accomplished.

Further special prizes won by exhibitors at the Southland A. and P. Association’s summer show include the following £lO prizes donated by the Reginald MacKinnon Trust for stock bred in New Zealand: W. Kennedy for a Border Leicester ram, J. Marshall for a Lincoln ram and A. W. Taylor for a Southdown ram. A. MacKinnon bonus of £4O for an imported Ayrshire bull was awarded to Mr J. J. Blakie.

Regular contributions amounting to £l9 17/6 from the following have been received for the Mayor’s Relief Fund: Justice Department, Public Trust Office staff, Bing, Harris and Co. staff, Corporation Department staff, Doctors’ Association, Captain Kennedy, C. E. Borne, Brass Bros., W. George and Co., J. C. Carter Ltd., 11. Grace, staff of 11. anil J. Smith Ltd., McNeil and Clark. Contributions have also been received as follows: O. J. Wright £l, James Macalister £2 2/-, “Anonymous" £2 2/-, “A. 8. £l. The following donations have been received for the Mayor’s Christmas cheer fund: Mrs Cossens £l, staff of Bank of New Zealand £l.
