WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Gore Women’s Institute on Saturday took the form of a garden party at Mrs C. M. Wilson’s residence. The president, Mrs E. G. Wilson, was unavoidably absent, but sent a hearty Christmas greeting to all members of the Women’s Institute, which was conveyed by Mrs Fisher (vice-president), who took the chair. A letter received from Miss R. I. V. Aitken was read calling attention to the hardships and privations of so many returned soldiers’ families in the district today. Donations of cakes, sweets, produce or garments would be greatly appreciated, and would be distributed as Christmas gifts among the children. All donations are requested to be left at Miss Aitken’s office in the Invercargill Savings Bank, Mersey street, not later than Tuesday, December 22. Mrs Bacon, the delegate representing the Gore Women’s Institute at the federation conference held at Gore last Tuesday, read a report of that meeting, the chief decision being that a Southland Federation should be formed early in March.
The entries for the apron competition were not numerous, there being only three on view. Mrs Fisher secured both the first and second prizes with two very oeautiful aprons. The party spent a pleasant half-hour in the garden, where a few snapshots were taken.
Before leaving, Mrs McKenzie, on behalf of those present, thanked Mrs Wilson for the use of her house and garden and for the very enjoyable afternoon that had been y spent by aR.
